Racor CCV Emission Filtration Systems

The Racor CCV emission filtration systems offer an effective means to filter emissions and prevent atmospheric pollution. These emissions not only pollute the air in the engine room and environment but they also contribute to increased maintenance costs.

Use our cross-reference table to find the filter that fits your engine.

Crankcase emissions either escape into the engine compartment or are ingested into the engine closed systems.

What is the cause of crankcase emissions?

Crankcase emissions are a result of high pressure “blow-by” around piston rings, which either escapes into the engine compartment or is ingested into the engine closed systems. Escaped emissions – an oil mist, can accumulate on engine components, compartment surfaces and equipment creating. This not only increases time spent cleaning, but also creates possible safety hazards along such as potential fires.

Emissions can also contribute to increased engine maintenance costs. Oily residues build up on critical components such as radiator cores, turbocharger blades, intercoolers and air filters. These residues act as a magnet for dust, grit and other airborne contaminants resulting in a build-up of unacceptable contamination.

In closed systems (CCV), the high efficiency filter prevents fouling of the turbocharger and after-cooler. In open systems (CV), the high efficiency filter prevents fouling of surrounding equipment and walls. At the same time, the cleaned exhaust will vent directly to atmosphere.

The only routine maintenance required for a Racor Crankcase Ventilation filter system is filter replacement. Typical service life of the high-performance filter in diesel applications is 750 hours.

How do crankcase ventilation filtration systems work?

Open system

Racor’s CV (open system) filters are high-efficiency oil separators. They feature depth loading, micro-glass fiber Vaporbloc™ media, which are capable of coalescing vapor and contaminants down to 0.3 microns. The resulting oil is held in a hose line with a check valve, until it is released to the oil pan via a hose connection. Filtered gasses are released to the atmosphere.

The units are suitable to handle a full range of crankcase flow rates up to 50 cfm (1.42 m3/m) or more (using multiple units.)

Closed system

The Racor CCV (closed system) filters are high-efficiency oil separators. They feature depth loading, micro-glass fiber Vaporbloc™ media, which are capable of coalescing vapor and contaminants down to 0.3 microns. The resulting oil is held in a hose line with a check valve, until it is released to the oil pan via a hose connection. Blow-by gasses are not vented into the atmosphere. Instead, the cleaned and filtered gases are routed back to the inlet of the turbocharger to be burned in the engine.

The units are suitable to handle a full range of crankcase flow rates up to 50 cfm (1.42 m3/m) or more, using multiple units. The units feature a unique crankcase pressure regulator with an integral bypass valve. This regulator prevents crankcase over-pressure and under-pressure, therefore preventing damage to seals and oil loss.
