engine starting Q&A

IPU Engine Starting Q&A

July 17th, 2017 in Engine Starting, News

We sat down with IPU’s Engine Starting Divisional Director and asked him our most frequently asked questions in an engine starting Q&A session. Why use an alternative to an electrical start motor? However if environmental, application, safety or black-start conditions dictate that electrical power is unsuitable or needs a backup solution, IPU has fantastic alternatives. What is black-start? Black-start is an emergency condition when all primary and auxiliary electrical or alternative power has failed and a diesel engine (probably driving the…

IPU Group celebrate International Women in Engineering Day

June 23rd, 2017 in News

IPU are celebrating International Women in Engineering Day on 23rd June 2017. IPU has a growing female workforce and has some advice for females considering a career in engineering. Findings published by the Women’s Engineering Society in March 2016 states that only 9% of the engineering workforce in the UK is female. This is a disappointing statistic that simply has to change. IPU works hard to support gender diversity and equality. The company operates an equal pay policy, which is based on job role and not the gender of the job holder. Females make up 21.43% of IPU’s workforce, and this figure is steadily increasing year on year. As part of IPU’s celebration of International Women…

IPU's ClearTank tank cleaning service

“Do I need fuel tank cleaning?” The answer is ‘yes’ more and more often

March 15th, 2017 in Fuel Conditioning, News

When we’re asked by a casual enquirer whether they’re likely to need fuel tank cleaning for their stored diesel we usually highlight three factors that advance fuel contamination. The alert signals for fuel tank cleaning Old fuel: if diesel is stored for more than six months, tank cleaning is recommended. If it’s stored for more than twelve months it becomes essential. Modern biodiesel blends degrade over time; the longer they’re stored, the more contaminated they become. Harsh conditions: outdoor tanks suffer worse contamination than indoor tanks because they suffer greater temperature changes and are more vulnerable to water pollution. Changes in temperature…
