IPU Engineers complete BFPA / CETOP qualification

October 7th, 2014 in Engine Starting, News

IPU prides itself on engineering quality and expertise. As a company we are committed to training our engineers for the benefit of our team and our customers. As part of this commitment two IPU engineers from our Starting Division have undertaking their BFPA/CETOP Level 1 Hydraulics Competence qualifications.

James Hughes and Paul Smith completed the 3 day Stage 1 Hydraulics Course at the National Fluid Power Centre (NFPC) in Worksop. The course is designed to teach engineers who work in the maintenance and management of fluid power systems (both industrial and mobile) the fundamental principles that underpin all hydraulic systems. Including:

  • An ability to read and interpret hydraulic circuit diagrams
  • An understanding of the function and operation of the critical system components
  • The reasons for contamination management at all times
  • The safe working practices associated with maintenance procedures

The course also taught James and Paul about:

  • Hydraulic symbols and notation.
  • Pressure, flow and direction control valves – function and operation
  • Hydraulic pumps – types and operation
  • Hydraulic oils and contamination control
  • Introduction to accumulators
  • Introduction to proportional control

Alongside the theoretical element to the course both were tested on their understanding through a series of practical exercises (including circuit construction using cylinders, motors and setting up components). This ensured both James and Paul left the NFPC with knowledge that would benefit them in their daily roles and the clients they serve.

IPU engineers provide installation and maintenance support to onshore and offshore clients around the world in some of the harshest of conditions. Our range of hydraulic starters provides clients with engine start reliability, no matter how challenging or unpredictable the environment, including areas with ATEX requirements.
