Facilities Management – offer more with help from IPU
Facilities management companies are always under pressure to find new ways to stay ahead of the competition. We can help you to gain the advantage by offering fuel conditioning.
If your clients’ rely on critical systems (such as hospitals, data centres and banks) they will store diesel for their backup generators. But did you know that fuel has a reliability shelf life? If your clients aren’t aware of this it could pose a huge risk should the mains power fail.
It is widely accept by fuel companies that when diesel is stored without treatment for longer than 6-12 months it can suffer from contamination. Fuel contamination is extremely harmful to an engine and depending on the type and severity of the contamination it can clog filters, cause damage to fuel injectors or result in total engine failure. This offers a huge opportunity to facilities management companies because with a little help from IPU, fuel degradation is entirely preventable.
Why does fuel need conditioning?
It’s a question we’ve been asked many times. But since 2011, the fuel we buy has been a blend of petrochemical diesel and FAME, a biological element that reduces the damage caused by burning the fuel. Diesel currently contains 7% FAME however that proportion to expected to steadily rise. While biodiesel is a great idea for the environment it’s a problem for anyone who stores fuel as it encourages contamination.
As diesel gets older it suffers from 3 main types of contamination:

To explain this issue further and to understand why it warrants your attention we’ve produced two short animations.
VIDEO: Understanding fuel contamination
The first video explains why fuel becomes contaminated and what can happen if the issue is ignored:

The second video explains what can be done to protect a client’s fuel against the threat of water, diesel bug and solid particulates.
The solution: IPU’s Fuel Conditioning Programme
The solution to protect your clients against fuel degradation is to introduce a fuel conditioning programme that includes testing, cleaning, polishing and stabilisation.
The good news is facilities management companies don’t need to go to 3 or 4 different suppliers for all of these services, IPU is your one-stop shop for a complete programme.
IPU DieselCheck
IPU’s DieselCheck fuel tests alert you to contamination caused by tainted deliveries or tank breaches.
A DieselCheck fuel test highlights the types and levels of contamination in your fuel. We then provide you with a simple report to explain what we found and importantly, how to treat it.
IPU ClearTank
IPU’s ClearTank cleaning service is a one-time process that prepares your fuel for long-term conditioning.
Cleaning is an important step that needs to take place before fuel polishing – just like you wouldn’t polish a dirty car. IPU’s ClearTank service simultaneously cleans both the fuel and the tank, leaving your fuel clean and dry.
IPU Diesel Defence
Unfortunately clean fuel doesn’t stay clean for long. IPU’s Diesel Defence on-tank and mobile polishing units maintain fuel to EN590 and ISO 4406 standards, ensuring it’s ready to power your critical applications.
IPU Fuel Stabilisation
IPU’s ADV Regulator neutralises the tiny molecules of water and contaminants that are too small to be removed mechanically during cleaning and polishing. This helps to starve bacteria of the ingredients they need to grow, saving money in the long term on regular filter replacements.
